H3278
Attempt to Crack Down on CRT in Public Education.
2023 - South Carolina Senate

Vote Description
The Senate version of this bill passes several provisions furthering conservative agenda items in public education. For example, it prohibits the teaching of certain divisive principles to students. These include those that state that one is inherently racist because of their race or that state that meritocracy is racist. The bill also prevents teachers and students from being required to attend trainings or presentations on gender and sexual orientation. Furthermore, the bill requires that many of the teaching materials used by school districts be posted on the school’s website. CPAC supports efforts to diminish the usage of CRT and CRT-adjacent principles in education, supports transparency in education, supports parental rights in education, and supported this bill. The Senate passed its version of this bill on May 10, 2023 by a vote of 27-10 but the Senate and the House never reconciled their versions of this bill.
