S 220
Making It More Difficult to Remove Pornography from Schools
2024 - Vermont Senate
Vote Description

This bill creates an absurd bureaucratic process for reviewing material in school libraries deemed objectionable. It then requires that this process ignore or throw out complaints made because of the identity of their characters and concerns occasioned because of “personal morality, political views, or religious views.” CPAC recognizes that this bill creates grounds to prevent the removal of any books because of the power of deified librarians. CPAC believes that school librarians should work at the behest of taxpayers, further recognizes that the First Amendment in no way requires the government to allow publicly-funded school librarians to make pornography available to children, and opposed this bill. The Senate passed this bill on March 27, 2024 by a vote of 23-6, and the bill later became law.
