SB 523
Government Largesse for Favored Projects.
2023 - West Virginia House of Delegates
Vote Description

This bill establishes an annual cap of $300,000,000 on funds that the Economic Development Authority may use in order to finance “high-impact development projects.” It additionally sets a cap of $250,000,000 on funds that may be used for traditional loans for businesses and $50,000,000 on funds for business retention loans. CPAC opposes government favoritism toward particular companies, believes that taxpayers should not be placed on the hook in order to finance private projects, and opposed this bill. The House passed this bill on March 10, 2023 by a vote of 83-14 and the bill later became law.
