Yesterday, President Trump held a landmark press conference at Mar-a-Lago where he raised controversy by hinting at gaining control of Greenland and the Panama Canal. Trump refused to commit to not using military force to gain these areas citing the Panama Canal as key to national and economic security and weakening China.
CPAC board member Gordon Chang weighed in: “The comments on Greenland are just out of bounds. Greenland is Denmark. Denmark is a NATO ally and loyal NATO ally. So, that type of talk is just wrong. When it comes to Panama Canal, it’s a little bit different. The Chinese in effect control the canal zone. On our treaty with Panama, we actually have the right to introduce American forces in an emergency situation. So, that’s a little bit different, but this type of talk doesn’t further the interest of the United States for any number of reasons.”
Chang further called it, “not a good statement for the President of the United States”, fearing it could embolden China to take military action to invade Taiwan.
Chang and Schlapp also addressed rumors that Canadian businessman Kevin O’Leary will buy TikTok, Trump renaming the Gulf of Mexico, and the political turmoil in South Korea. Watch their full conversation on CPAC+.
