CPAC Senior Fellow Mercedes Schlapp called Joe Biden this year's October Surprise in a recent appearance on Newsmax. Typically October Surprises favor Democrats, but this year, Biden's comments labelling Trump supporters as "garbage" only lit a fire in base Trump supporters.
Schlapp called it a "nightmare for the Kamala Harris campaign" who is dealing with backlash and a distraction at the finish line of the election. Schlapp applauded the Trump campaign, however, for maximizing the situation and adopting the garbage label as a rallying cry.
"Of course, the Trump campaign, so strategic, being able to find a garbage truck, put the president in orange vests and then it goes viral, viral on social media," said Schlapp. "That's everything everybody's talking about."
